The Birth Of Techno - MOMEM:Museum Of Modern Electronic Music at Hauptwache - 2for1 tickets
Starting in September 2023, MOMEM will expand its regular exhibition program with the installation-based exhibition "The Birth of Techno - From Detroit to Berlin," curated by Arastu Salehi (art is the place). Complementing the current exhibition MILESTONES, "The Birth of Techno" provides an alternative perspective on the often Eurocentric narrative of the emergence and history of the techno genre.
"The Birth of Techno" highlights the African-American influences on techno that often go unnoticed, especially in the German setting. In addition, it takes a historical perspective on the exchange between Detroit and Berlin, the appropriation processes and marketing strategies, as well as the stubborn structures of the techno scenes in both cities. In this way, the exhibition conveys the complexity of techno and the cultural references of the genre.
