Opera Classica

On the occasion of Enrico Caruso's 150th birthday, Opera Classica Europa is organizing a gala concert in honor of the legendary tenor, who was born in Naples on Feb. 25, 1873. At the beginning of the 20th century, Caruso, who came from a humble background, rose to become the most famous and important tenor in the world. He owed his huge success not only to his incomparable operatic arias, but also to his beautiful, popular songs from the 'Canzone napoletana' repertoire, including in particular 'O sole mio' by Eduardo Di Capua, which achieved worldwide fame through Caruso's interpretation.

At the 'Gala Night of Tenors', visitors can look forward to renowned artists such as Gioacchino Lauro Li Vigni (Metropolitan Opera New York), Irakli Kakhidze (National Theater Mannheim), Sung Min Song (Komische Oper Berlin) or Azer Zada (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon). The outstanding Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra Gotha-Eisenach has been engaged as the orchestra. The musical direction will be taken over by the international guest conductor of Opera Classica Europa, Hans-Friedrich Härle. With a great deal of expertise and background knowledge, Claudia Grundmann will lead the audience through the evening's program and have some interesting details in store for them.
