There are nasty comments about the recorder, but of course we know that it is the most popular instrument for beginners, and not without reason. It is a small, relatively easy to learn instrument, which makes it easier for children to enter the world of music. It took a long time for professional recorder players to achieve the same stardom as their colleagues on the violin or piano. Today Petri, Steeger and Temmingh fill the halls and have a loyal following not only of knee-high music school students. Connoisseurs know that Dorothee Oberlinger is more than a master of this instrument from her successful CD recordings, most recently of the dreamlike "Pastorale," where she also joined forces as conductor of Ensemble 1700 and with soprano Dorothee Mields. For her latest program, she has chosen a congenial partner in lutenist Edin Karamazov. He has already toured with the pop singer Sting, and here he can demonstrate his ingenious talent as an arranger: well-known and lesser-known works by Bach resound in a new light with recorder and lute. One may be particularly curious about his version of the oboe concerto by Alessandro Marcello, which Bach had already adapted for the organ.
